WHERE WE SERVE
We live in Golden Lake, ON, next to the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation. We minister primarily in Golden Lake and Pikwàkanagàn and also, through camp ministry, various other Indigenous and urban communities throughout Ontario and into Quebec.
OUR MISSION IN A NUTSHELL
We are passionate about travelling alongside Anishinaabe (Algonquin) and other Indigenous Peoples in eastern Ontario and Quebec and building paths between peoples, communities and our Creator, Jesus Christ. Central to our ministry is our leadership of an Indigenous summer camp, Pinaaz-i Zibi Maamawi (Travelling the River Together), a Christ centered, culturally expressive camp serving Indigenous young people and communities with a focus towards reconciliation. With this “travelling together” focus we partner with Indigenous and nonindigenous community members and churches in ministry to families and communities including the camp, community gatherings, such as the PZM Christmas Gathering, and coordinating a clothing bank in the local public school among other relationship building opportunities. An important part of our ministry is also sharing and teaching to raise awareness of history and Indigenous experience as we all learn to travel this river of life in reconciliation.
WCC CONNECTION
We have some personal connection through the former pastor, Rob Gulliver, who has sent children to the Indigenous camp. We also have some connection through our home church, House of Prayer for All Nations.
MINISTRY TIMELINE
We have been working in Indigenous camp ministry for almost 12 years and have been working in our current ministry for about 6 years. We plan on continuing as long as we are physically and mentally permitted to as God allows and directs.
HOW TO SUPPORT
Prayer is number one, but also an interest in learning and understanding the history and stories of the people we work with. Financial support and partnership/participation in ministry is always needed and important but prayer is essential for our encouragement and discernment and learning and understanding is essential to facilitating reconciliation among peoples.
